What ceremonial grade means here

Shade-grown

The tea plants are covered before harvest. That slows growth and builds the deep green colour and natural sweetness.

First harvest

Picked from the first flush of the year, when the leaves are youngest. It tastes smoother and less bitter.

Fine powder

A very fine powder that whisks into a smooth, frothy drink.

Why we started Matcha Daddy

We're a couple who love Japan, Japanese culture and a good bowl of matcha.

We drink matcha as our coffee alternative. For us, the L-theanine in it takes the edge off the caffeine jitters, so we get the lift without the wobble.

We started Matcha Daddy to bring high quality matcha back to Australia and to normalise what good matcha tastes like. We want it to be accessible and enjoyable for everyone, all over the country.

It's just the two of us, so when you email, you get us.

Make it in a minute

You need a bowl, a sieve and a whisk. A small jar works too.

Sift

Sift 3–4g of matcha into a bowl. That's about 2 teaspoons. Sifting stops lumps.

Pour

Add about 60ml of water at around 70°C. Boiling water makes it bitter.

Whisk

Whisk in a fast W or M shape until the top is frothy. Drink it straight away.

Add your sweetener of choice if you like. Want a latte? Whisk with a splash of water first, then pour it over cold or steamed milk.
